Just a quick post to let you know about a wonderful event taking place in London tomorrow in celebration of Black History Month.
Hair Stories is an event created by Ujima Collectively United, a collective of female entrepreneurs who aim to celebrate the history of African hair through the ages.
The day will showcase workshops on Head-wrapping, Empowerment, African Hair Threading, Healthy Eating & Hair and a children’s colouring workshop. There will also be a braiding bar, fashion show and lots of vendors for you to shop.
I am honoured to be part of the ‘Don’t Get It Twisted’ panel were we will be discussing what it means to grow up in Britain as a person of African heritage with African hair. We will share anecdotes but also address the very serious issue of hair aesthetics and what is deemed permissible and appropriate within society in 2016.
HairStories takes place on Saturday 29th October between 10.00am and 6.00pm at City of Westminster College, Paddington Green Campus, 25 Paddington Green, London W2 1NB.
Tickets are still available and believe they will be available on the day but at a higher price. For more information visit the Ujima Collectively United website.
Hopefully I will see you there.
