I am currently in Jamaica so this just a quick post to touch base on something that affects us all.
We all have a past, we all have areas of our lives that we may have hoped turned out differently.
We all have times in our lives that we did not suffer hurt pain and disappointment.
We can get caught up in those past moments and situations and they can hinder our present because we are living in the shoulda, coulda and woulda of yester-year.
You see it is ok to reflect on the past, because in the pain and disappointment of the past there are many valuable lessons. However, we must not dwell in the past to the point that it prevents us from experiencing the present moment.
Write down what do you need to let go from the past because it is preventing you. For example, are you holding onto hurt caused by an ex-partner that is affecting a current relationship or even preventing you from entering into a new relationship?
This may bring up some difficult memories and you may have to seek help if this behaviour is affecting you now. But the good thing here is that you have recognised and acknowledged it.
It’s important to celebrate your how far you have come and what you have overcome so write that down too.
It’s amazing how resilient we are and often times we do not recognise the strength we have and use it for challenges we maybe going through now.
Don’t forget to enjoy the good memories too.
I hope you will find this exercise valuable.
Until next time
