It was a lovely sunny day in London and I was invited to attend Sip n Share, an intimate event hosted by the celebrity makeup artists and twin sisters Janice & Denise Tunnell from Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
Denise and Janice have extensive experience working in film, television, music videos and print. I am sure you will recognise some, if not all of a few of the exciting titles they have worked on, Fast & Furious 5 & 7, Hunger Games, Vampire Diaries, The Grammy Awards, Fighting Temptations and many more.
Their client list is impressive and includes Destiny’s Child, Gabriel Union, Vivica A. Fox, Taraji P. Henson, Kerry Washington, Lorretta Divine and Idris Elba to name a few.
I was truly inspired by their stories as both have a background in business and accountancy and have earned degrees from North Carolina State University. However, they followed their passion for the beauty industry and whilst having established careers in business and accountancy they worked hard to gain the experience and qualifications to make the leap into the beauty industry.
The sisters shared that far too often they see many examples where the wrong shade of cosmetics have been used on black actors and why they are passionate about ensuring that black actors are catered for on set.
With their desire to make high quality cosmetics accessible, Denise and Janice launched their own line of cosmetics in 2006 and stress that Illusions Cosmetics are made for all women of colour.
At the event I had the opportunity to try colours from the lip and eye dust ranges. The colours are vibrant, highly pigmented and long lasting and there are plans to ship Illusions Cosmetics to the UK in the future.
Since the event, I have been sent a couple of foundations to try and I am excited to review these in a future blog.
The event had a nice vibe to it with a Q & A session led by Ria of Pride Magazine. Did I mention there were an abundance of tea, cakes and goodie bags? So I was very happy.
It was lovely to meet fellow bloggers I had not met before and catch up with familiar faces too. Thank you to JoClare PR for the invitation.
